It can be extremely alarming and scary to see a spider crawling through your home. While most spiders are not considered to be aggressive or dangerous in any way, nobody wants these creepy bugs hanging around. And in California, spiders can invade your home throughout the entire year.

If you are dealing with a spider problem around your home, an experienced

Murrieta pest control professional can help make your home spider-free. At Integrity Pest Elimination, we have been in the pest control industry for over three decades, and we know the secret to effective spider control.

Does Killing A Spider Attract More Spiders?

If you see a spider, your first thought may be to kill it and go on about your business. However, some people worry that if you have a spider infestation, killing a spider does not solve your problem and could actually make it worse.

Spiders are meat eaters that like to eat insects and will even eat other spiders. If you kill a spider, the dead spider carcass could attract other hungry spiders into your home. Dead spiders left in your home may also attract insects, which could, in turn, attract more spiders.

However, this is no reason to let spiders run rampant in your home. It's a good idea to remove spiders and their webs as you find them to discourage them from nesting in your home.

Most Spiders Are More Of A Nuisance Than A Danger

There are several hundred different types of spiders that can be found in Murrieta. While many of the spiders in this area may be large and have an intimidating appearance, most of them are considered to be completely harmless.

Out of the hundreds of types of spiders found around Murrieta properties, only a few are considered to be dangerous. These include:

  • Yellow sac spider: This spider is about ¼ of an inch long. Typically, the yellow sac spider has a yellowish-tan body and dark brown legs. It also has eight eyes that are separated into two rows of four.

  • Desert recluse spider: The desert recluse spider looks extremely similar to a brown recluse spider. This spider has a light brown body, six eyes, and long, thin legs. It also has a dark marking on its back, shaped like a violin.

  • Black widow spider: This spider has a shiny black body and a plump, round abdomen that features a red marking in the shape of an hourglass

  • Brown widow spider: The brown widow has a similarly shaped body to its relative, the black widow. It has a plump round abdomen and long slender legs. However, the color is much different. Usually, these spiders have tan and brown bodies with yellowish-brown markings.

If you see one of these spiders in your home, it could be dangerous if you come in direct contact with them. However, all other spiders you find may look scary, but they are not considered dangerous and should not be hazardous to your health.

Why Do I Have A Spider Problem In My Home?

A spider infestation could be a warning sign that you have a bigger problem on your hands. Spiders like moist areas. If you are seeing an increased amount of spiders roaming through your home, it could mean that you have a leaky faucet, pipes, or another excessive moisture issue. Also, these spiders eat insects. A spider infestation is often the first clue that alerts homeowners to an insect infestation. An underlying insect infestation is the number one reason for spiders to move into your home.
