Habitat: Outdoors under stones, in leaf litter and other debris; indoors in spaces within walls, crawl spaces, basements, floor drains. This roach may sometimes crawl up along water pipes to the second floor.

Biology: Female usually deposits her egg capsule within about a day (up to 5) after its formation. It may be dropped onto or glued to a surface that is warm and protected, and near a source of food. She will produce on average about 8 egg capsules (16 eggs each) during her life.

Like other roaches, the Oriental cockroach is a nuisance to humans, and feeds on filth. This species also has a strong odor.

Food: Scavenger, will eat almost anything.

Size: American Cockroach adults are about 1 3/8 to 2 1/8 in ( 34-53 mm) long.

Color: Reddish brown, except for pale brown to yellowish band around edge of pronotal shield.

Habitat: Warm, humid places. The American cockroach may be found in residential buildings, but is far more common in food storage and food preparation areas, basements, and steam tunnels of large commercial buildings.

Biology: The female drops her egg capsule or uses a substance from her mouth to glue it to the surface of a crevice that is near a source of food. She does this an average of about 9-10 times during her life. Each egg capsule contains about 14-16 eggs.

Damage: Nuisance, and health hazard as carrier of disease.

Food: Scavenger, will eat almost anything.

Size: German cockroach adults are about 1/2 – 5/8 In.long.

Color: Light brown to tan with two almost parallel, dark longitudinal stripes, bars, or streaks on shield; female darker than male.

Habitat: German cockroaches may live throughout a building, but especially in warm and humid places, such as kitchens, bathrooms, and bedrooms and dens where people eat casually.

Biology: Female carries egg capsule until within 1-2 days of hatching, and deposits it in a sheltered place. She will produce about 5 egg capsules (30-40 eggs each) in her life.

Damage: German cockroaches are the most common, and have the most impact as a nuisance. They may transmit disease organisms, and cause allergic reactions in some people.

Food: All types of food, as well as things like soap, glue and toothpaste.
